If you have curly hair, when should you brush it?

It depends on the brush and situation. Dry brushing or combing is a no-no; it's very difficult. Wet or shower brushing is difficult. A wide-toothed comb or fingers with conditioner are better. A hair mask keeps frizz away, but conditioner use is infrequent. Detangling takes time, but a few days' difference is fine. Products matter; sulfates and silicones are generally avoided, though sulfates are used here to avoid grease. A Denman styling brush, after detangling and leave-in conditioner is applied, emphasizes curls. Small sections should be brushed. YouTube videos are helpful. After detangling (or styling with the Denman brush), flip hair, shake it, and separate curls. Hair gel and water are scrunched in from many angles; continuous squeezing follows. Videos demonstrate proper scrunching. Air-drying is recommended, but a diffuser is better than a blow-dryer if blow-drying is necessary; low heat is crucial.
